The Importance of Host Families
A host family is one of the most important and influential aspects of a baseball player’s experience when playing in the West Coast League. While some of our players are from the Puget Sound area, many more will come from all across the country. Our host family goal is to help players adjust to moving to a new area, assist them as they get acquainted with the community and provide a safe and stable living environment. The host family provides an opportunity for the community to assist in the development of these players on and off the field. Host families have the opportunity to “adopt” a player during the summer, establishing lifelong friendships, and in many cases, the chance to follow “your boys” throughout the career progression towards Major League Baseball.
Expectations of a Host Family
Host families are to provide free room and board to these players during the three (3) month West Coast League season and a family environment to help players transition to a new and sometimes foreign community. Many players will come with transportation and we can help coordinate. While players are developing professionals, they are still young men who are learning to adjust without Mom or Dad to provide. Host families help bridge that gap. Players begin arriving the beginning of June, and stay through the middle of August.
Benefits to a Host Family
As a thank you to opening up your home and families to these players, and allowing them to live free of charge in your home, host families are provided with the following benefits:
- Two (2) Reserved Admission season tickets
- A party during the season with the players to say “thank you” for your generosity
- A night at the ballpark where host families will be welcomed onto the field and recognized for their contributions.
Expectations of Players
Just like at school we expect each player to be focused on taking care of their business; making positive decisions that will benefit their individual progress and the success of the team. We will treat our very important host families with the utmost respect, going above and beyond their house rules. Our fans are also very important to the operations. We ask you respect them and understand that without them no summer team would survive. It is really simple – you come here to play ball, work hard and get better. You will have a great time, be treated well, meet new people and create lasting memories. HAVE A GOAL, WORK TOWARDS YOUR DAILY OBJECTIVE, COMMUNICATE AND BE RESPECTFUL TO OTHERS. Your experience will be dictated by your actions.
The BlueJackets are a new operation of our organization, MACK Athletics. We anticipate unforeseen obstacles. But we will communicate very well. We have a tremendous group of people from coaching staff, operations to interns. Players will have access to trainers, doctors, chiropractors, local business and the community. We also will have camps, tournaments and youth league that players will have an opportunity to help with. Meals and lodging on the road will covered by the BlueJackets. Coaches will be available for early work for players. If you ever need something we’ll always have someone available to help in some way.
MACK Athletics & PSCL Baseball
MACK Athletics & PSCL Baseball are the parent company to many baseball teams, leagues and endeavors. Our mission is based around development. The “Approach” of how we go about becoming better is much more important than the “Result” to us. The Kitsap BlueJackets complete our baseball cycle model. With the addition of the BlueJackets we now have players from 3-28 years old.
